My Bali Trip 2014 Part 3 – Review on Spa Saloons series 1of2, W Hotels AWAY Spa

As you would probably have read in Part 1 of my Bali post, that IZE Seminyak hotel does not have an in-house spa saloon. But how can a trip to Bali be completed without a visit to a spa, right?  Therefore, Mrs SOL and I decided to look around for a good spa treatment through internet recommendations and actual ground survey. I would cover the spa saloons that we went to, and I shall provide you with my personal review for each of them.

Let’s start with the very much raved about – AWAY Spa by W Hotels.

AWAY Spa by W Hotels

This spa facility is situated in Bali’s W Retreat & Spa Resort in Seminyak. One of the reasons to visit Away Spa is that it opens for 24 hours, therefore allows you to leave the precious daytime for other activities. You can always visit this spa at wee hours and still get pamper by their much raved about treatment.

Away Spa

Away Spa – What’s your wish?

Away spa can provide you with the ultimate luxury experience. From their lavishly styled reception area, you will know the price for a spa treatment doesn’t come cheap.

Nevertheless, you can also expect the quality of their service is also up to the mark. Staff and therapists are incredibly attentive. Before they start, they will check with you on the strength that you preferred. About a minute into the session, they will check with you again to make sure the pressure just right for you to be comfortable.  This level of attention to detail and their professionalism are commendable.

You are encouraged to arrive early, not just for courtesy sake, but if you are half an hour early, you will be rewarded with the use of the cold pool, hot plunge pool, steam room and oxygen therapy station.

As it was 11pm, and after a long walked from IZE Seminyak to W resort,  Mrs SOL and I were so thirsty and wanted just to sip a drink instead. The receptionist then recommended us to visit their in-house chill bar, which served their own concoction of revitalising juices.

As for the room, we were given a VIP suite for our Spa session. Their suites are designed with the W hotel’s touched that once you enter your room, you will be greeted by the glow of the light emanating from the messaging beds and along the sides of the white walls.

Below will be some pictures I have taken to illustrate just how exquisite the rooms are. Away Spa features a modern and sophisticated rather than traditional Balinese design. This gives patrons a luxurious and exceptionally “out of the world” feel.

2nd Segment – Body Scrubbing

The third segment is one I enjoyed the most. Coupled with smooth dim blue lights and soft music played in the background, it created a great ambience for us to fall asleep! The pressure of the massage was just right with what we requested and no pain was felt. Instead comfort is the only feeling we experienced.

After the 3 hours of rejuvenating massage and spa, we were awake by their soft touch feeling refresh and recharge. It was a truly one of a kind experience.

The finale of this package is a visit to the post production where you can help yourself to snacks and drinks. It is thoughtful of them to have such an area, as for a group of friends might sign up for different packages and thus, the treatment duration might be different. Therefore, instead of having to wait at the reception area, the post production provides you a spacious area for you to read papers/magazines while sipping the ‘refuel elixir’ and chewing on snacks.

AWAY Spa is indeed more expensive compared to other spa saloons elsewhere in Bali but is worth your money! Everyone who visited Bali should at least try the service at least once.  The AWAY spa experience is truly an unforgettable one!

Overall, I will rate AWAY Spa a perfect score of 5/5!  You can click here to view their extensive list of treatments offered.

where do you go to hide AWAY?

What’s next?

Although AWAY Spa is a heavenly experience, it comes with a hefty price tag. I understand that there will be spa-goers who do not fancy sophistication and design. Instead, they prefer a spa saloon that is of no frills that is reasonably priced.

No worries, for you, I have the second part of Spa Saloons review which I will share with you readers, 2 spa saloons that we visited that delivered just what it is needed and yet friendly to one’s wallet.

So do stay tuned.

Cheers~

Short Getaway at Montigo Resort Batam Part 2

In part 1, I shared with you on Montigo Resort and what it’s villa can offer you and your family. In part 2, I am going to shared with you some activities you can do in Batam.

1. Continental Breakfast @ Montigo Resort

The day started with having a sumptuous breakfast at TADD’s restaurant in Montigo Resort. Breakfast is typically provided as a guest of the resort. Breakfast will be served in international continental style, consist of a few individual stations for asian food delight such as Roti prata, Mee Goreng and Mutarbak.

3.  Shopping at Nagoya Hill

After exploring we booked a taxi and headed towards Nagoya Hill near Batam Center. It is a shopping heaven in Batam in which it has the largest shopping mall in Batam known as Nagoya Hill Shopping Center.  However, please do not have high expectation over what you expect from a shopping mall (Ion Orchard for example) in Singapore. Instead you should appreciate its simple and laid back setting providing tourist and locals, a place to shop and dine.

4. Massage and Spa

After a few hours of shopping, we went for our 3 hours spa package. How to describe it, I can only say “SHIOK AH”! Haha. (For those who don’t understand Singlish, shiok meant “Great! with an expression of satisfaction”).

Furthermore, how can a Batam trip go without a spa and massage? I strongly encourage visitors to visit one of the below mentioned spa salons. Their service is excellent yet the price is friendly to one’s wallet.

– The Spa Secret (http://www.spasecretbatam.com)

– Well Asih Spa (www.wellasih.com)

Well Asih Spa

Couple Room in Well Asih

Well Asih Spa deserved a commentary. Just by simple comparison, you will notice that obviously The Spa Secret is more well decorated and having the premium-kind of feeling. Yes, you are right. However, skill wise I must say  Well Asih’s therapist are more skilful and attentive. That is not to say The Spa Secret’s therapist did a bad job (in fact I must say they did well), but I am saying Well Asih is better!  The price needless to say is about SGD $35-$50 for the same package you can get over at The Spa Secret for about SGD $70- $100, twice the difference.

Is really up to yourself to choose. If you won’t mind paying a bit more to get the exclusive and premium kind of feeling, visit The Spa Secret. You will get to feel like a king or queen.

On the other hand, if you prefer cheap and good kind of service, then visit well asih. Their bosses are also kind people who are willingly to drive you back to your resort for free.

5. Dinner

As we stayed there for 2 nights, this give us the chance to try eating at 2 different places for our dinner. I must say the food served by these 2 mentioned places are delicious. We are very satisfied and well fed that 2 nights. 🙂

– The Pantai Restuarant in Montigo Resort

Pantai Restaurant is just located below the reception area. It serves Chinese food (but halal) like what we normally have in those “Zi Char” (Cook Fried) stalls in hawker centres.  With the 4 dishes we ordered below, it just cost us SGD$35 for 2 person, very affordable!

– de Sampan Seafood & BBQ

Batam being an island give seafood lovers a spoilt for choices. de Sampan Seafood is one the famous outdoor seafood restaurants in Batam and it definitely worth your visit. Sampan is a small boat or canoe, therefore being called de Sampam the food is literally placed in a canoe  for you to choose before they cook it. It give just give you a different kind of feeling. Price wise, about SGD$30 for 2 pax.

6. Chill at Poolside Bar, Tiigo @ Montigo Resort

On the last night of our Batam getaway, we chilled at the poolside bar in Montigo Resort. That night happened to have a DJ spinning nice music for us and it really value add to our experience. Ordered 2 drinks and french fries, sat by the pool with the view of Singapore at the opposite felt awesome!

Alright, that summed up my short getaway visit last week to Batam, Montigo Resort. While uploading the pictures, it make me miss the place, the massage and the food again. I would definitely visit Batam again but perhaps a different resort. Don’t get me wrong, Montigo resort is really a class of its own and I will strongly encourage you to go for Montigo if you are going as a family. However, since I already went and stayed there before, I would really like to try other resort to get a different experience.

Will I recommend Montigo Resort? Yes! But bear in mind currently a few facilities are under upgrading so there isn’t much things you can do in the resort. You can however talk to the receptionist and they can schedule your desired activity with their neighbouring resort.

Will I be back at Montigo Resort? Yes! perhaps with my family in future! =)

Cheers~
