Many singaporeans sure heard of the famous “Pontian Wonton Mee, 笨珍云吞面” that comes with delicious fried wonton and various sauce for you to choose from. However do you know where exactly is Pontian?
Quoted from Wikipedia ” Pontian is a district in southwest Johor. It is located 62 km from Johor Bahru, the state capital of Johor, Malaysia. It is also located at Miles 37 (Batu 37) from Johor Bahru. The name Pontian is also used in the names of two towns in the district, Pontian Besar and Pontian Kechil, of which the latter serves as its district capital. The capital was formerly a fishing village which has developed into a small town.”
To readers who are familar with Kukup or visited there for a sumptuous seafood dining, you will realised that Kukup is just below Pontian from the map (30-45mins car ride).
I have a special relationship with this rustic town. My grandparents used to live in a Kampong hut located right in Pontian. Hence, I pretty much travel there to visit them often and have a special attachment to this place. Over the years, this place did not change much. Just as slow pace, just as quiet. A simple lifestyle I would say. Below are few pictures taken during this short trip for your viewing pleasure. 🙂
